Welcome to Main Street Middletown, Maryland!

Main Street Middletown is an organization dedicated to developing and promoting the economic vitality of Middletown’s downtown while preserving its unique historic character. Middletown received its Main Street designation through the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development in 2009.  Stemming from the Main Street initiative at the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Main Street programs exist across the nation.
The National Trust conducted case studies on small towns nationwide and identified those that were thriving and why.  Based on the findings, the Trust developed the Main Street program, providing a proven formula for small town success.  The basic formula is known as the 4-Point Approach as defined through Organization, Design, Economic Development, and Promotions.

Organization means we are driven by a Board of Directors that rely on volunteers;
Design is more than preserving historic features, it is the street light fixtures, banners, landscaping, and other features that promote a cohesive visual appeal;
Economic Development means that Main Street is interested in seeing businesses thrive and as a Main Street community, we are able to help businesses apply special loans and limited grant money; and
Promotion bringing people to Main Street through the wonderful events we have as well as marketing the image of Middletown.

In short, we are here to celebrate the genuine treasure of Middletown’s vibrant, local flavor that is not replicated elsewhere!
