Heritage Tour of Middletown 2020
May 16, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Join us for the 2020 Heritage Tour of Middletown Old East Main Street Historic District
SATURDAY, MAY 16, 10:00 am to 2:00pm
RAIN DATE – SUNDAY, May 17, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Until the early 20th century, the area between Church and Broad streets was mostly farmed or undeveloped.
Present-day Broad Street was the town’s eastern boundary. As Middletown grew, Church Street became the dividing line between West and East Main Street. Despite the development of this land into a residential area in the 1900s, a few houses from the mid- to late 1800s remain.
You can identify these earlier houses, like the ones at 11 East Main and 100 East Main, by their closeness to the street and foundations conforming to the hilly topography.
More formal Victorian and Colonial Revival styled homes were developed here from 1900–1930. Trained docents will be stationed along the route so you can look, listen, and learn at your own pace.
Tour begins at the historic Christ Reformed Evangelical Church of the Brethren, 12 South Church Street, where tickets can be purchased for $10/per person.
Children under 16 are free.
